April 25th 2005 I have just received the photo (right) of a girl named Jen, who works for Tarina Tarantino in Los Angeles, wearing her vintage Green Marley HOLLYWOULD shoes. We think she looks divine in them, and would love to see all of you in your HOLLYWOULD. So… send us a photo of you in your shoes, bag, or dress, and we’ll post it to the site this week! xoxo, Holly April 25th 2005 HOLLYWOULD is hiring for 2 positions! Both individuals must be enthusiastic, highly organized, detail oriented, and fashion saavy. Assistant Accessories Designer based in Florence, Italy
Wholesale Assistant based in NYC
Both positions start ASAP. Please send resumes to jobs@ilovehollywould.com April 20th 2005 I’ve just managed to get out of bed and can hardly move. Last night I had the bright idea of taking a “Hydrobike” class at my gym. Those of you who read this diary know that I am a huge proponent of the current “Acquagym” trend here in Italy (see March 15, 2005), which is basically the Italian version of water aerobics. The girls back in the NYC office laugh when I tell them I do water aerobics, saying it’s for old ladies and asking if my class is taught at the local nursing home. Hydrobike, however, is no laughing matter. For those of you who don’t know, Hydrobike is like Spinning, but underwater, and is the current craze here in Italy. They gym has stationary bikes made for underwater use, and we ride them until our legs feel like they are going to fall off and float to the surface. I have to admit that the women who take Hydrobike are in much better shape than those of us who take Acquagym, but that last night may very well be my last Hydrobike class ever. I just don’t know if I’m cut out for any “real” forms of exercise, and seem to only have fun in a class full of old ladies singing along to Wham! whilst doing underwater Rockette kicks. The idea of actually doing any kind of exercise that would cause me to break a sweat – even underwater – just isn’t as appealing. I have a feeling I may end up being one of those weirdos doing slow-motion yoga in the park, or “power walking” through the neighborhood in a pastel pink Baby Phat jumpsuit w/ matching sweatbands. In the meantime, I’ll see you tomorrow at Acquagym. Just wake me up before you go go…:) April 17th 2005 My weekend began with a trip to picturesque Lake Como to visit one of my fabric suppliers. I know, I know, life is tough when you have to go to Lake Como for work, but the beauty of making things in Italy is that everywhere you go is gorgeous, everywhere you eat is delicious, and everyone you work with is friendly, fun, and bizarrely good looking. There really is no better place. From Como I headed down to Milan to join my favorite pal Jasmine Sforni (who is mentioned endlessly on this diary) for a party hosted by Surface magazine and Milan PR Star Carolina Neri. If you ever need to throw a party in Milan, Carolina is the girl to call as was evident by this lovely party, which took place on a large canopied roof deck where we all had cocktails under the stars (www.carolinaneri.com). The party was fabulous, and made even better by the fact that my friends Alfonso & Tarina Tarantino, who were in town from LA, were also in attendance. For those of you who don’t know, Alfonso & Tarina have a fabulous line of jewelry, Tarina Tarantino, which is worn by all of the hottest celebs. I can’t live without my Tarina Tarantino ponytail holders and clips, which I highly recommend for adding a bit of sparkle to your ponytail (www.tarinatarantino.com). On Saturday after recovering from the Surface party, we all headed down to Florence where we met for drinks at The Gallery Hotel and dinner at Trattoria Buco de l’Orafo. Lately I’ve gotten a zillion emails from HOLLYWOULD girls around the world who are coming to Italy and want my list of “must sees, must eats, must buys”, which I plan to post on this site sometime in the very near future. In the meantime, if you’re coming to Florence I highly recommend drinking a “capiroska fragola” at the Gallery Hotel Bar, and eating artichokes & fried chicked (yes, it’s an Italian dish) at Trattoria Buco de l’Orafo. Yum! April 11th 2005 HOLLYWOULD girls are the best and the brightest, and we have just finished reading a long list of comments sent from you to us (via the “VIP Registration” on this site), which makes us love you even more! Here is a sampling of some of some fabulous one-liners sent by our favorite HOLLYWOULD girls:
We love you too! We’re always surprised to see exactly who is wearing HOLLYWOULD, and here’s a sampling of girls who do:
Such a diverse group, and we love each and every one of you! April 7th 2005 So much to tell! First, for any of you who live in NYC, I will be teaching a class tonight at The Learning Annex entitled “How to launch your own shoe or handbag line”. If you would like to find out more, please visit their site at www.learningannex.com and look for HOLLYWOULD! Yesterday morning I attended a lovely breakfast at Saks Fifth Avenue to celebrate the launch of Lucy Sykes’ new baby line, Lucy Sykes Baby. As you can imagine, everyone who is anyone was there, including all of our favorites such as Celerie Kemble, Amanda Brooks, Christina Greeven Cuomo, Kelly Bensimon, Lauren DuPont, Tara Gordon, Alice Sykes, Kate Schelter, Sally Albermarle, etc, etc, etc. Needless to say, if there was ever an “it” children’s line for “it” children, Lucy Sykes Baby is the ultimate! To view her fabulous collection, visit www.lucysykesbaby.com or your local Saks Fifth Ave. From Saks, I headed up to Oscar Blandi hair salon, which is in The Plaza Hotel. I really can’t think of anything more chic than getting your hair done at The Plaza, and a friend had recommended Oscar as “the ultimate place for blonde.” The minute I arrived I knew she was right, as I was surrounded by a sea of blondes in all shapes and sizes. Surprisingly, my favorite thing about fancy schmancy hair salons isn’t the VIP treatments, but rather the extensive opportunities for eavesdropping on other blonde’s conversations, and a chance to see the results of some of the world’s most expensive plastic surgery. Sitting in my hair chair, I decided that a very good game show would be a plastic surgery version of The Price Is Right. They would line up women, tell their real age, and the contestants would guess exactly what they had done and how much each surgery cost. Was it a face lift, or just a good chemical peel? I’m convinced that I would be very good at this game, and could probably win the coveted Dyson vacuum cleaner and all-expense-paid trip to Puerto Vallarta. Fingers crossed, it will happen one day soon. April 5th 2005 It’s finally spring in NYC, which means the party season is about to be back in full swing. Parties in New York tend to come in waves, with a wave in September when everyone returns from vacation, a wave in December for all of the holidays, a blip in February during Fashion Week, and a wave from April through May in order to celebrate the fact that we can all finally wear open-toed shoes and party dresses without the burden of fur coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. Yeah! As a result of spring and springtime soirees, HOLLYWOULD has been jam-packed with eager shoppers, including some of our favorite HOLLYWOULD VIPs. As of late we’ve had supermodels Iman and Trish Goff, and the lovely Jessica Simpson shopping chez nous with her mother! If you read this diary you know how much we love, love, love Iman, Trish Goff, and Jessica Simpson, so having them come shop at HOLLYWOULD was trés, trés exciting. My social life is also getting back into swing, and I recovered from Leslie’s bachelorette just in time for a trip to the Guggenheim museum this weekend to see my pal Ben Brock starring in Slater Bradley’s amazing Doppelganger exhibit. Later that evening I attended the hot new play “This Is How It Goes”, which stars HOLLYWOULD faves Ben Stiller and Amanda Peat, who wears HOLLYWOULD in the play! If you live in NYC, I highly recommend a trip to the Guggenheim to see Slater’s exhibit, followed by a trip to the Public Theater to see “This Is How It Goes”. Every night this week there are beaucoup soirees, so stay tuned… April 1st 2005 Never drinking again. This morning my head hurt so much that when I tried to blow dry my hair, the wind from the dryer was actually too much pain to bare. The excuse for last night’s over-consumption was the bachelorette party Ashley Auchenbach & I threw for my best friend and business partner, Miss Leslie Ternes. For those of you who don’t know, Miss Leslie Ternes will soon be Mrs. Eli Smith, and Ashley and I weren’t about to let that happen without at least one more night of drinkin’ & dancin’ revelry. Party attendees included HOLLYWOULD girls Ashley Wick, Isa Moneypenny, Jackie Terrebone, Gloria Cuttone, Kate Schelter, as well as a lone pirate we met on the way (see photos). The evening began in ladylike fashion, with cocktails at The Plaza Hotel’s Oak Bar. As you all know, The Plaza is about to close its doors forever, so we wanted to be sure to soak up one last glass of champagne before the legendary Oak Bar becomes extinct. From the Oak Bar we all headed to dinner at Fredricks, where we switched from champagne to martinis, and had quite a few. After a lovely dinner we headed down to Club NA, where the music was rockin’ and we all got our groove on practicing our best Beyonce/Britney dance moves, much to the dismay of the other club attendees. From NA we headed to Marquee, where the party continued until 3am. Or was it 4am? We’re not sure. By the time I got into the office this morning I had emails from everyone wondering what happened to their jacket, ipod, cell phone, handbag, scarf, etc., and my camera was full of over 350 photos of complete strangers, which I have edited down to the ones pictured right. You’ll be happy to know that these photos aren’t the worst of the worst, and thanks to last night’s antics I now have a folder on my computer titled “Blackmail Photos”, which will be saved for use at a future date. Leslie has actually called in sick for the first time in four years, which means our mission was thoroughly accomplished. Rock on. |
